On Monday evening at the town’s community centre, the volunteer first response unit unveiled a 16-foot trailer that has been completely outfitted to serve as a stand-alone medical centre, as well as a mobile coordination unit.
The trailer, which was purchased last year, was christened Medic 4: Unité de support médical.
Medic 4 is outfitted with medical supplies and equipment, as well as a generator and lighting system that can be used in times of power outages.
When using the unit, First Responders will also be able to set up a small treatment area.
According to a press release, the mobile unit was planned and built by volunteers Benoit Hébert, Joël Deshaies, Jean Noël, and Kent Wood, while Medical Response Unit Director Nick D’Ulisse was credited for his “visionary work” in establishing Medic 4.
Medical Response Unit disaster preparedness specialist Joël Deshaies said the desire to be ready for a large-scale medical emergency in St. Lazare is what prompted the group’s initiative.
The group noted that Medic 4 was paid for with funds collected during the Medical Response’s annual car stop in St. Lazare, as well as with a surprise donation from the Hudson Music Club.

Joël Deshaies captured a photo of St. Lazare’s Medical Response Unit training with its new Medic 4: Unité de support médical.
St. Lazare’s Medical Response Unit says it can handle multiple patient emergencies as of this week thanks to a large trailer that has been outfitted for the unit as a rolling medical centre.
