More than 300 teens participated in Saint-Lazare’s first ever Youth Forum, which was recently held at the town community centre.
During the workshop that included round table discussions and group interaction, the teenagers were asked to help municipal officials decide the best way to spend $10,000 to directly benefit Saint-Lazare’s youthful population. Some ideas the kids came up with included building a town pool, a cinema park and a dedicated events theatre that would host youth-only shows and activities. Others liked the idea of adding a better quality skate park.
In the end, however, the kids decided to spend the money on teen dances and transporting participants to special events outside of Saint-Lazare.
The youth forum workshop, which included food and goodies for participants, was presided over by Brigitte Asselin, interim mayor, municipal councillor Michel Lambert and representatives from Forum jeunesse de la Vallée-du-Haut-Saint-Laurent, who partnered with the Town on the event. An entertainer also helped keep things lively during the workshop.
