Moms to Moms
They sell baked goods and handcrafted jewelry, take portraits and make soaps, pitch beauty products and translate – all businesses that can be run from home and are being eagerly undertaken by a new type of entrepreneurs. They’re “mompreneurs” who juggle a business while raising a family. Although it seems like they have the best of both worlds, these business owner often feel like they are working in isolation.
To help these women, a group called MomsTown Small Business, based in Vaudreuil and the surrounding area, has developed to help mothers stay plugged into the larger business networks. The 55-member organization offers support, business contacts and advice to mothers who have plunged into a small business, while giving them tips on how to be available to their children and families.
Organizer Mary Seferian said that speakers are regularly brought in to discuss issues that affect the women and provide a forum to bounce ideas off each other.
