The ground floor of a newly restored Victorian home on St-Thomas St in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, is now home to a Galerie Ouest - an art gallery that can be rented as an exhibition space by artists of all kinds.
Owner Helena Scheffer said she was attracted to the location because of Ste Anne’s artistic community. “It’s such a cute little town. It’s an up and coming place. The house is beautiful – we saw the potential in it,” she said.
The Galerie’s raison d’être is to provide artists and artisans with a no-commission art exhibition space. Painters, sculptors, photographers, fabric artists and other artisans are invited to rent the gallery space where they will plan, organize and promote their own exhibitions, and will keep all the proceeds from their sales.
The current exhibition, until February 3, is of Scheffer’s own work. She is an art quilter and was inspired by Amish quilters early in her career.
Group and solo shows for one or more weeks can be accommodated by the gallery. The artist of the week will be featured on the gallery’s Website at
www.galerieouest.ca with links to the artist’s personal website. “I want to create a gallery where people who are visiting Ste Anne will say: ‘Let’s drop in and see what’s there today,’” Scheffer said. “That’s my dream.” Galerie Ouest is located at 37, rue Saint-Thomas in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue. Gallery hours are: Monday - Wednesday: noon – 5:00; Thursday and Friday: 2:00-8:00 and Saturday and Sunday from noon- 5:00. Phone: 514 695-8249
