Snowy Hudson egg hunt a hit
‘No one walked away empty handed’
Mountains of frozen snow covering a once flat lawn, and an earlier than usual holiday weekend did not deter more than 250 egg gatherers from participating last Saturday in Hudson’s tenth annual Easter Egg Hunt.
With a nod to the past winter’s record breaking snowfall, organizers were forced to move the traditional search that has been taking place for the past decade to the community centre parking lot.
Parks & Recreation Director Mike Klaiman said since the lawn resembled “a ski hill” the break from tradition was necessary.
One-thousand coloured, plastic Easter eggs had been stuffed by teen volunteers and recreation staff with chocolates and coupons for French fries donated by Burger King. Kids from four different age groups were told to collect no more of five eggs each, said Klaiman. Some coupons were also inscribed with winning numbers and a several lucky kids won prizes including two bicycles, a tent and other goodies.
“No one walked away empty handed,” assured Klaiman.
Pat O’Grady, a long standing Hudson volunteer, served as master of ceremonies, while IGA Hudson/ST. Lazare donated food and goodies to the event.
