Annual Hudson tournament fishing dads’ participation
No permit needed during two day event
The town of Hudson hopes fathers fall hook, line and sinker for their 11th annual Father’s Day Fishing Tournament that will take place this Saturday and Sunday at Pine Lake in Hudson.
And since the event coincides this year with the government run Festival de la Pêche program that allows people to fish without a permit across Quebec for one weekend each year, participants to the Hudson event also get to fish without a permit.
“It just happened to fall on the same weekend,” said event founder Jean Chevalier, of the Hudson Parks and Recreation Department.
Each year the event draws between 45 and 55 participants.
Chevalier said he stocked Hudson’s Pine Lake with 1,000 rainbow trout (that are attracted to hooks baited with canned corn) two weeks ago thanks to a $4,000 grant from Quebec’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Wildlife.
The non-competitive fishing event will take place on Saturday, June 14, and Sunday, June 15, from noon to 4:00 p.m. both days.
Participants can register the day of the event, explained Chevalier, adding that the majority of enthusiasts are families with kids.
Prizes are given for things such as the largest and smallest fish that are caught, as well as for the most fish caught, while there will be barbequed foods available amid the festive atmosphere.
For fishing at Pine Lake or other locations outside of the permit-free weekend, fishing permits are available at Canadian Tire in Vaudreuil-Dorion and St-Germain Sport, in Coteau-du-Lac.
