Maison Trestler, in Vaudreuil-Dorion was selected by voters in Les 7 Merveilles de Vaudreuil-Soulanges contest in the category dedicated to the top cultural building in the region.
The heritage home located at 85 chemin de la Commune in Vaudreuil-Dorion was once owned by Jean Joseph-Trestler, a former MNA, merchant and mercenary in the Hesse Hanau regiment. Owing to its primary river location between the Ottawa River and the Lake of Two Mountains, the stone house that was built between 1798 and 1806 was once used in the area’s fur trade industry.
It was built in the French-Canadian vernacular and has a distinctive, steeply pitched dormered roof. Though the home now serves as a thriving centre for culture in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges region, it has also enjoyed a rich history in the area.
Maison Trestler, which is furnished in period antiques, is well suited for the many ongoing art exhibitions, music and cultural events that take place there year round. Others have discovered that the home is a unique place to hold private receptions, business gatherings, and such.
Walking through the home, with its plush oriental carpets, gleaming woodwork and stunning furniture, one can image life in a by-gone era.
Indeed, taking in a concert at the Maison Trestler, or viewing an art exhibit is a treat due to the historic surroundings. It is even possible to rent the house for various events.
This summer’s music festival at Maison Trestler, a highlight for many in the region, includes, for example, performances by Du Baroque Au Flamenco, on July 2, at 8 p.m.; Quaturo Pour La Fin Du Temps, Hommage à Messiaen on July 9, at 8 p.m.; 40 ans de Carrière, a piano concert by Raoul Sosa on July 16 at 8 p.m., and more.
Also, as of July 2nd, tea on the lawn is offered to visitors. English tea and snacks are served on the beautiful terrace overlooking the lake from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
